Trump Sees Shooting In Florida Airport, Instantly Knows What To Do

President-elect Donald Trump issued a brief statement on the shooting at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Friday.

“Monitoring the terrible situation in Florida. Just spoke to Governor Scott. Thoughts and prayers for all. Stay safe,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

 

Authorities said five people were killed in the attack and eight others were injured.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Trump, and Vice President-elect Mike Pence discussed the situation over a phone call around 2:20 p.m. Eastern Time.

Ari Fleischer, the former White House Press Secretary under President George W. Bush, was at the airport at the time of the shooting and tweeted about it.

 

According to White House National Security Council spokesman Ned Price, “The president was apprised this afternoon by Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa Monaco of the shooting at Fort Lauderdale airport and will be kept updated as the investigation unfolds.”

The shooting, which occurred around 12:55 p.m., took place in Terminal 2 in the baggage claim area. The suspected gunman was identified as Esteban Santiago.
